Khalid Seeks Imams’ Role to Stop Dowry

Chattogram: Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain has urged imams and khatibs to actively raise their voices against the practice of dowry in various forums, emphasizing the significant impact their involvement could have. He made these remarks during a meeting with Muslim Nikah registrars at LGED Bhaban in Chattogram.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was organized by the Bangladesh Muslim Nikah Registrar Forum and focused on preventing child marriage. Dr Hossain highlighted the societal impact of dowry, labeling it a crime and a curse, and encouraged religious leaders to speak out against it. He emphasized that imams, khatibs, and qazis are in a unique position to influence opinions and should use their platforms to discourage the practice of dowry.



Dr Khalid assured the attendees that he would convey the demands of the Nikah Registrar Forum to the relevant authorities. The meeting also featured speeches from Additional District Magistrate Mahbubul Haque and LGED Executive Engineer Mohammad Hasan Ali. The session was chaired by the president of the forum, Qazi Syed Mohammad Abu Sayeed.
