Dinajpur:A football tournament honoring former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia commenced today in Birampur, Dinajpur, with festive celebrations marking the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tournament was inaugurated by State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque, who attended as a special guest and released balloons and pigeons at the Birampur municipal area's playground. Minister for Women and Children Affairs Prof. Dr. A Z M Zahid Hossain was present as the chief guest.
Md Aminul Haque expressed his happiness in being part of the sports event, drawing from his personal experience as a player. He motivated the participants to strive for success in sports, suggesting it could pave the way for a better future.
The inauguration was attended by Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner Md Rafiqul Islam, Police Superintendent Md Zedan Al Musa, District Council Administrator and District BNP President Advocate Md Mofazzal Hossain Dulal, along with district and upazila BNP leaders. The event attracted a large crowd of spectators who watched the opening match.
Organized by a 21-member committee headed by Hakimpur Upazila BNP President Md Ferdous Rahman, the tournament features 26 teams from the Birampur, Nawabganj, Hakimpur, and Ghoraghat upazilas under the Dinajpur-6 constituency. The tournament has stirred significant excitement among local sports enthusiasts.
