KDA Chairman Advocates for Sustainable Development in Khulna

Dhaka: Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Chairman Advocate SM Shafiqul Alam Mona announced today that the authority is actively implementing a sustainable and well-planned development strategy to revitalize Khulna into a modern, environmentally friendly, and livable city. During the inauguration of a tree plantation program at Kalpataru Ground in Daulatpur, he emphasized KDA's commitment to not only constructing infrastructure but also ensuring the development of Khulna as a green and sustainable urban space.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chairman revealed that the abandoned Kalpataru Market in Daulatpur is slated for removal to pave the way for a mini stadium. This project is being carried out with the support of National Parliament Whip Rakibul Islam Bakul, MP. He further noted that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has mandated the formulation and implementation of a sustainable development plan for Khulna, a region that has long been neglected. The KDA is diligently working to bring this vision to fruition.

Mona highlighted tree plantation as a crucial step in ensuring a cleaner and safer environment for future generations. He urged citizens, especially youth and voluntary organizations, to actively engage in the tree plantation campaign. In line with the government's goal of planting 25 crore trees nationwide over the next five years, he encouraged everyone to plant at least one tree in their homes or any available open space. He stressed that public participation is vital to complement government efforts in building a greener Bangladesh.

In addition to the environmental initiatives, the KDA chairman distributed sewing machines and clothing materials to impoverished families, with financial support from philanthropist Shamshad Atik Kishore. He also inaugurated separate tree plantation programs at Daulatpur Mohsin Secondary School and Daulatpur Mohsin Girls' Secondary School.

The event was attended by KDA Chief Engineer Kazi Md Sabirul Alam, Khulna City BNP Organising Secretary Sheikh Sadi, Daulatpur Thana BNP President M M Murshid Kamal, General Secretary Sheikh Imam Hossain, Organising Secretary Md Matlubur Rahman Mitul, and other local leaders and dignitaries.
