Khulna: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) on Wednesday afternoon formed three mobile teams to address waterlogging in the city, aiming to take necessary steps to identify the causes of waterlogging in some areas. The decision was made during a meeting at the GIZ auditorium in the KCC building, chaired by Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the action was directed by KCC Administrator Md Firoz Sarkar, who emphasized the urgency of removing waterlogging in low-lying areas. The meeting was attended by officers and employees from the departments of conservancy and civil engineering. Three mobile teams were formed, each tasked with specific zones within the city. The first team, covering wards 1 to 15, is led by Assistant Secretary Engineer Md Obaidullah Khan. The second team, responsible for wards 22, 23, and 29, is headed by Deputy Sub-Assistant Engineer Amit Kanti Ghosh, while the third team covers wards 27, 28, 30, and 31 under the leadership of Sub-Assistant Engineer Sheikh Nazrul Islam.
Executive Engineer Sheikh Md Masud Karim and Conservancy Officer Md Waheduzzaman Khan have been appointed as key coordinators for the mobile teams. The teams have been instructed to assess the waterlogged areas with the necessary manpower and equipment. They are also tasked with discussing the causes of waterlogging and advising on solutions through a designated WhatsApp group.
The meeting further instructed the teams to monitor for any barriers formed during the construction of existing drainage works and to ensure the proper functioning of sluice gates for smooth water flow. Chief Engineer Moshiuzzaman Khan urged city residents to cooperate with KCC field-level officers, providing necessary information to aid the monitoring teams.
Among others, KCC Architect Rezbin Khanam, Conservancy Officer Waheduzzaman Khan, Consultant of KCC, and representative of KUET Abir Hasan Noyan attended the meeting.
