Dhaka: The government has announced a new tax category for individuals recognized as ‘July Warriors,’ who were injured in the July mass uprising of 2024. These individuals will benefit from a tax relief on incomes up to Taka 525,000 for two years, starting from the fiscal year 2026-27.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed introduced these measures during a pre-recorded national budget presentation for FY26. The proposal includes an increased tax-free income limit for gazetted war-wounded freedom fighters, raising it to Taka 525,000 from the current Taka 500,000, effective from FY27.

The budget also outlines changes in tax-free income limits for other categories. Physically challenged individuals will see their tax-exempt income rise to Taka 475,000 for the assessment year 2025-26, and further to Taka 500,000 for the years 2026-27 and 2027-28. Similarly, individuals identifying as third gender taxpayers will benefit from the same adjustments in their tax-free income limits for the specified assessment years.
