Cumilla: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today affirmed that the martyrs of the July Uprising in 2024 should be honored as freedom fighters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made this statement after laying wreaths at the grave of Shaheed Imam Hasan Tayim Bhuiyan, a martyr of the July Uprising of 2024, in Etbarpur, Chandina Upazila. He emphasized that just as the freedom fighters were martyred in 1971, the martyrs of the recent uprising also sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the nation. Rizvi highlighted that the term 'martyr' signifies more than the loss of life; it represents the struggle to liberate a nation from subjugation, with Tayim being one of those who died with the commitment to transforming a submissive state into an independent one.
Addressing Tayim's mother, Rizvi remarked on Tayim's dedication to the cause, noting that he joined the agitation of the July Uprising against his family's wishes, ultimately sacrificing his life for the country's democratic reestablishment. Rizvi conveyed that remembering Tayim's sacrifice is the highest tribute to his legacy.
Amra BNP Poribar, a platform within BNP, expressed their support for Tayim's family. Leaders from the group visited Tayim's grave and met his family, with Convener Atikur Rahman Rumon providing financial assistance on behalf of the party's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. Rumon also extended a message of sympathy from Tarique Rahman and pledged ongoing support to Tayim's family.
The event was attended by prominent BNP figures including Cumilla Division Organizing Secretary Principal Selim Bhuiyan, Cumilla North District BNP Member Secretary AFM Tarek Munshi, Chandina Upazila BNP President Atiqul Alam Shawon, General Secretary Kazi Arshad, Mohanagar BNP President ABM Sirajul Islam, General Secretary Shah Md. Alamgir Khan, and other district leaders.
