Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam Bir Protik today said the mass uprising in July 2024 has created an unprecedented opportunity to work selflessly for the country which doesn’t come time and again. ‘The martyrs through their sacrifices has entrusted a responsibility on us to work for the nation selflessly. So, we have to accomplish the task with courage and without wasting time to establish our valour and dignity,’ he said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made these remarks while addressing a workshop on the Employment Generation Programme for the Poorest (EGPP) of Cox’s Bazar district at a hotel in the capital. He emphasized the significance of the EGPP, highlighting its role in providing financial support to the extreme poor, thereby facilitating social uplift and livelihood opportunities.

The adviser also addressed the challenges posed by the influx of displaced Myanmar citizens into Cox’s Bazar, which has caused considerable social and financial strain on the local population. This influx has disrupted daily life and presents a significant challenge for the region.

In light of these challenges, the EGPP program for Cox’s Bazar district is seen as a vital initiative that aids in creating employment opportunities, alleviating poverty, and fostering the development of local livelihoods. The meeting was presided over by Disaster Management and Relief Secretary M Kamrul Hasan, with contributions from Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman and EGPP Project Director Anjan Chandra Pal.
