Dhaka: July Shaheed Smriti Foundation has announced the distribution of over Tk 26 crore to 1,140 families affected by the student-people uprising. This significant contribution was discussed at the third central executive council meeting of the foundation, held at the State Guest House Jamuna. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was presided over by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and attended by notable figures including Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum, Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin S Murshid, Chief Executive Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha, and General Secretary Sarjis Alam. It was disclosed during the meeting that as of November 30, 2024, the foundation's fund has accumulated Tk 107.75 crore. Out of this, Tk 18.25 crore has been allocated to the families of 365 martyrs, and approximately Tk 7.86 crore to 775 injured individuals. The foundation has efficiently disbursed a total of Tk 26,11,70,190 to the families of 1,140 victims via bkash, as confirmed by a press release from the chie f adviser's press wing. The gathering also reviewed the progress of decisions made in the previous meeting, discussed the workings of the special cell related to the mass uprising, and deliberated on the formation of medical, ICT, and legal support teams to assist critically ill patients. Furthermore, the foundation has established a medical support team for severely injured patients, led by former Chittagong Medical College Hospital director Brigadier General Dr. Md Jalal Uddin. In his presentation, Dr. Uddin highlighted that nine injured individuals have been sent abroad for advanced treatment-six to Thailand and three to Singapore-with plans for two more to follow shortly. Additionally, arrangements are being made to send seven more injured individuals to Turkey for better medical care. Dr. Uddin also noted that several special medical teams from abroad have already visited to treat the injured.
