Dhaka: Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul announced today that the trial proceedings concerning the 'July genocide' are expected to be completed in the trial court before the upcoming national elections, as the government remains steadfast in its commitment to deliver justice for the brutal killings of students and civilians.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Asif Nazrul expressed optimism about the progress of the trial at a press briefing held at the Foreign Service Academy. He emphasized that despite the judicial nature of the matter, the government is confident about concluding the trial proceedings swiftly, given the current pace.
In response to inquiries about the events during the July-August uprising, Dr. Nazrul reassured that the proceedings are advancing smoothly, with no signs of negligence. He reaffirmed the government's unwavering pledge to prosecute those responsible for the heinous acts committed in Bangladesh.
Dr. Nazrul highlighted the significant role of the International Crime Tribunal (ICT) in these trials, noting that the government prioritizes the ICT due to its extensive involvement. He also mentioned that the investigation into the killings is progressing rapidly, with expectations for the hearings to commence in March.
The briefing also featured remarks from Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, and Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
