DHAKA, – Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Jubo Mohila League must be vigilant so that BNP cannot occupy the streets.

"Jubo Mohila League must be vigilant so that BNP, a political party formed based on terror and blood, cannot occupy the streets," he said.

The minister came up with the call while speaking at a discussion as the chief guest at Awami League central office on Bangabandhu Avenue organized by the Jubo Mohila League marking the Sheikh Russell Day and protesting the recent Palestinian Genocide.

Paying deep respect to the memory of Shaheed Sheikh Russell, Dr Hasan recalled the history of August 15, 1975, saying Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, was the mastermind of this assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members including 10-year-old child Sheikh Russell.

BNP does politics with terror and human blood, he said, adding that in 2004, here, in front of this Bangabandhu Avenue office, under the patronage of Khaleda Zia's government, they (BNP men) wanted to kill Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina by throwing grenades like shower under the direction of Tarique Rahman.

"24 AL leaders and workers were killed while 500 were injured. I still have 40 sprinters in my body," Dr Hasan continued.

Hasan also said, “BNP said that the final game is in October. They said Khaleda Zia should be released within 48 hours. That didn't happen either. It means, they lost in the semi-final. So, final game cannot be played with them anymore. Awami League will not play with them”.

About current status of the Palestine, Hasan Mahmud said over 800 people including children died in the Israeli attack on the hospital in Palestine.

They cannot find a place to bury them, he said, adding that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has declared a day of mourning in the country, protesting this brutality on Sheikh Russell Day as well.

The entire world from France to various European countries and even the United States protested the attack, he said, adding that only BNP and its ally Jamaat, who utters Islam and Islam, are silent.

The BNP has practically taken the side with this Israel's barbarity and infanticide and remains silent because a major power might be unhappy and people are recognizing them, he mentioned.

With President of Juba Mohila League Aleya Sarwar Daisy in the chair, the discussion was attended, among others, by Awami League Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsunnahar Champa and General Secretary of Jubo Mohila League Sharmin Sultana Lily.

Later, the minister handed over educational materials to the students and participated in the procession of the Jubo Mohila League in protest of the genocide in Palestine.

Meanwhile, Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud attended the 69th founding anniversary of the National Press Club at Topkhana Road in the capital this evening.

The minister celebrated the event by cutting cake with National Press Club President Farida Yasmin, General Secretary Shyamal Dutta and current, former leaders and members of the organization.

Recalling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's unveiling of the foundation stone of the 31-storied Bangabandhu Media Complex of the National Press Club, the Information Minister wished the future prosperity of the National Press Club.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the aim of present government is to make the country a human welfare state alongside making it prosperous one.

Noting that journalists can guide the state and society as well as open people's third eye, he said, therefore, the role of media is very important to advance the country and make it a human welfare state.
