DHAKA, Feb 5, 2017 (BSS) - Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Farzana Islam today expressed deep shock at the death of veteran Awami League leader and former minister Suranjit Sengupta, MP.
In a condolence message, the VC recalled the glorious political career of Suranjit Sengupta and said that the death of Suranjit Sengupta has created a vacuum in the arena of politics which is an irreparable loss to the country's political arena.
She also said Suranjit will remain alive among the country's people through his tremendous contribution to strengthening parliamentary democracy in Bangladesh.
Professor Farzana Islam prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Sengupta, the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, died of lung cancer at Labaid Hospital in Dhaka early today. He was 72.
He was also a member of Awami League Advisory Council and earlier served the country as railways minister.
The veteran politician Suranjit had been elected as Member of Parliament (PM) for seven times from Sunamgonj-2 constituency since country's independence.
