DHAKA, May 31, 2017 (BSS) - The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Estimates today reviewed progress of different ongoing projects under Water Resources Ministry, Education Ministry and Rural Development and Co-operatives Division of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry in the fiscal year 2016-2017.
The committee made the review at its 10th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its Chairman Noor-E-Alam Chowdhury in the chair, said an official release here.
Committee members A B Tajul Islam, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Yussuf Abdullah Harun, Shahanara Begum and A T M Abdul Wahab attended the meeting.
The committee suggested the Water Resources Ministry to submit the reports on its projects to the committee after getting those scrutinizing by the ministry and IMED.
The committee recommended the ministry for using the projects' vehicles as per the government rules and regulations.
The committee also suggested the Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Ministry to implement the projects of Rural Development and Co-operatives Division through the Local Government Engineering Department and to take necessary measures for implementing the projects within the stipulated time.
Besides, the committee suggested the Education Ministry to implement its projects through the Education Engineering Department and to take opinions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on running the activities of the universities, if needed.
The committee also recommended the Bangladesh Bank for taking necessary measures to get back money from the banks disposing of the cases and to form a separate bench in the High Court for conducting the cases.
The Bangladesh Bank was also asked to submit a report to the committee within two months on 15 loans disbursed by the Agrani Bank in Chittagong region from 2010 to 2012.
Secretaries of Water Recourses Ministry, Education Ministry, Bank and Finance Department, Rural Development and Co-operatives Division, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Managing Directors of Sonali and Agrani banks, and senior officials of the concerned ministries and Jatiya Sangsad were present in the meeting, the release added.
