JS body for declaring ‘Balu Mahal’ in consultation with project engineers

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Water Resources today recommended declaring 'Balu Mahal' by the deputy commissioner (DC) of each district after holding discussions with the project engineers concerned.

The committee recommended notifications to the state minister, deputy minister or secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources seven days before inaugurating the projects of the ministry.

The parliamentary watchdog came up with the recommendation at its 30th meeting held at the Sangsad Bhaban here with its chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair, an official release said.

The meeting thanked all concerned, including the ministry, that the crop has been harvested quickly in the haor areas.

Current status of the project to protect both banks of Surma River from erosion, conservation project of left bank of Meghna River from Barikandi in Nabinagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district to Dharabhanga MP Dam and conservation work of left bank of Teesta River at Mahishkhocha in Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat district were discussed in detail and the committee recommended timely completion of these conservation works.

Other committee members - State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque, Deputy Minister for Water Resources AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Shamshul Haque Chowdhury and Nurunnabi Chowdhury - were present at the meeting.

Water Resources Secretary, Director General and officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board, officials of Ministry of Water Resources and JS Secretariat were also present.
