Dhaka: In the wake of the post-earthquake emergency, classes and examinations at Jagannath University (JnU) have been suspended from tomorrow, with the university administration deciding to conduct online classes from November 30.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision was made at a meeting held today, chaired by university Vice-Chancellor Professor Md. Rezaul Karim. The meeting resolved to suspend in-person classes and examinations, shifting to online classes for a specified period.
The meeting included University Treasurer Professor Dr Sabina Sharmin, deans of all faculties, directors of all institutes, registrar, chairmen of all departments, the general secretary of the Teachers’ Association, the chief election commissioner of JnUCSU, and the proctor. The primary concern was the safety and well-being of students following the recent earthquake, prompting the university to prioritize their physical and mental health.
Classes and examinations are suspended until November 27 to evaluate risks and review the campus’s condition. Students have been instructed to vacate Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhurani Hall, the university’s sole residential facility, by 10 am tomorrow.
Educational activities are set to resume on an online platform from November 30 to December 4, 2025. Additionally, a committee, which includes experts from BUET, has been formed to inspect and assess the condition of various buildings post-earthquake. This committee, led by the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences, will submit a report by December 3, 2025.
A follow-up meeting on December 4 will consider the report and the prevailing conditions to decide on further steps. During this transition, the university’s central library and student transportation services will remain closed, although administrative offices will continue to operate.
The JnUCSU Election Commission will also be taking necessary actions regarding election activities during this period.
