Dhaka: The Department of Geography and Environment at Jagannath University (JnU) orchestrated an awareness rally today in observance of World Environment Day 2025, focusing on the global theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. The rally took place on the university campus, commencing from the administrative building and traversing the entire premises.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event aimed to raise awareness regarding the hazards of plastic pollution while promoting sustainable, eco-friendly practices among the students and staff. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from various sectors of the university, including the Dean of the Faculty of Life and Earth Sciences, Professor Dr. Mallik Akram Hossain, the Chairman of the Department of Geography and Environment, Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Quader, and the Proctor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Tazammol Hoque.
Faculty members, students, and administrative staff from multiple departments also joined the procession. Addressing the participants, speakers underscored the urgent need to combat plastic pollution and highlighted the significant role of afforestation in environmental conservation. They urged everyone to embrace green habits and assume individual responsibility for a more sustainable future.
Following the rally, saplings of various eco-friendly tree species were planted at different locations across the campus.
