Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair today highlighted the ongoing election’s festive environment, urging citizens to actively partake in the democratic process. He emphasized the importance of electing honest and competent leaders for the nation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Zubair addressed a press conference at the party’s central office in Moghbazar, where he described the election as a vibrant and inclusive event. He noted that the government’s declaration of a general holiday facilitated voters’ spontaneous participation, with significant turnout observed since the morning.
Zubair underscored the significance of the current polls, which are being conducted in 299 parliamentary constituencies to elect members of parliament, alongside a crucial referendum on a proposed reform. He encouraged voters to endorse the referendum, expressing optimism for a welfare-oriented state system.
The Jamaat leader reported that party Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and other senior leaders, including Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Sheikh Abdullah Mohammad Taher, cast their votes and engaged with voters at various polling stations. He noted that party leaders across the nation were actively participating and interacting with media representatives.
Zubair commented on the election’s festive nature, contrasting it with past elections marred by allegations of irregularities. He remarked on the significant involvement of the younger generation and female voters, expressing hope for increased turnout as the day progresses.
Despite the festive atmosphere, Zubair reported incidents in certain areas where party leaders and activists faced attacks, and polling agents encountered obstructions. He mentioned unrest in Bhola-2 constituency and disturbances in parts of Cumilla, Barguna, and Noakhali’s Hatiya. The party’s election committee communicated these issues to the administration.
Zubair called on the Election Commission, law enforcement, and administration to ensure a neutral and credible election, stressing the public’s desire for a fair and peaceful process. He remained hopeful for further voter engagement in the remaining polling hours.
