Dhaka: Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Akhtar Ahmed announced on Thursday that 47.91 percent of registered voters had cast their ballots by 2pm at 36,031 out of 42,651 polling centres nationwide. He provided this update to reporters at the EC secretariat.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the commission is still awaiting turnout data from 6,620 centres. In response to claims by Jamaat about the suspension of voting in nearly a hundred centres across three constituencies, the EC Secretary stated that there is a provision to halt voting if such allegations are substantiated.
Akhtar Ahmed noted that there have been no major issues affecting the overall election process so far. Reflecting on his visits to two polling centres earlier in the day, he mentioned that officials reported a slow voter turnout until noon. However, he observed an increase in voter flow on his return journey.
