Kushtia: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today declared that the party would not seek revenge if elected, emphasizing that Bangladesh belongs to all citizens, not just a specific group. He assured that no one would be unjustly accused in cases, stating that Jamaat has not falsely implicated any individual.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Shafiqur Rahman made these remarks at a Jamaat-e-Islami election rally held at Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia. He recounted the challenges faced by Jamaat, including the killing of leaders, imprisonment, closure of party offices, demolishment of homes, cancellation of party registration, and an eventual ban. Despite these adversities, he affirmed the party's commitment to not taking revenge, a declaration made on the night of August 5.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman paid tribute to Abrar Fahad, describing him as a symbol of Bangladesh's independence and sovereignty. He highlighted Fahad's act of raising his pen against domination, which led to his untimely death. He also referenced the mass uprising of 2024, attributing it to the fearless youth of Bangladesh who, he said, fear no one but Allah.
Addressing the situation in Kushtia, Dr Shafiqur Rahman criticized the mismanagement that has led to the Padma and Gorai river region turning into a desert. He pointed out the issues of river overflow and erosion, which have devastated many lives. He accused authorities of misappropriating funds meant for river dredging, claiming that the river sand is never raised as promised.
Furthermore, Dr Shafiqur Rahman called on individuals involved in extortion post-August to desist from such activities. He encouraged them to step away from unlawful practices, offering to share lawful livelihood opportunities provided by Allah. He expressed Jamaat's vision of a Bangladesh where both men and women, particularly the youth, have access to dignified employment to contribute to the nation's progress.
The rally was attended by leaders of the 11-party alliance, with Kushtia Jamaat acting Ameer and Kushtia-2 constituency candidate Abdul Gafur presiding over the event. Other notable speakers included Jamaat Secretary Suja Uddin Joardar, Kushtia-3 candidate Amir Hamza, Kushtia-1 candidate Belal Uddin, Kushtia-4 candidate Afzal Hossain, and Kushtia city Jamaat Ameer Enamul Haque.
