Nilphamari: Several local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami fell into a river on Wednesday after a wooden bridge collapsed during an inspection in Nilphamari’s Dimla upazila. However, Md Abdus Sattar, Member of Parliament from the Nilphamari-1 constituency and district Jamaat Ameer, escaped unhurt as the section of the bridge he was standing on remained intact.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the accident left three people, including the MP’s bodyguard Abdul Mannan, injured. The incident occurred around 11:30 am in the Natabari area when the MP was inspecting a wooden bridge built by local residents over the Nautara River. Kazi Rukunuzzaman Bakul, secretary of Dimla upazila Jamaat, mentioned that locals had constructed the bridge with their own funds due to the absence of a permanent structure.
He explained that a portion of the bridge suddenly collapsed under the weight of the large group. Among those who fell into the river were upazila Ameer Maulana Mujibur Rahman, Nayeb-e-Ameer Kazi Habibur Rahman, Bakul, and Dimla Sadar union Ameer Nur Mubassher.
The MP stated that he will discuss with the authorities concerned about constructing a permanent bridge in the area.
