Khulna: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has described the martyrs of the July movement as national heroes and expressed the party's commitment to realizing their aspirations. Speaking at the workers' conference of the party's Khanjahan Ali Thana Unit at Eastern Jute Mills Sramik ground, Dr. Shafiqur emphasized the importance of the martyrs' efforts in organizing nationwide anti-discrimination movements and liberating the country from autocratic rule. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shafiqur highlighted the bravery of the martyrs who faced bullets with the aim of establishing a discrimination-free Bangladesh. He advocated for a nation where all citizens, regardless of caste, party affiliation, or religion, would enjoy equal rights and dignity. Dr. Shafiqur also recalled the overthrow of a dictator at the cost of the lives of numerous students and called for vigilance against any conspiracy that might allow tyrants to return to Bengal. He criticized the Awami League's 17-yea r rule, claiming it subjected the populace to significant repression. Dr. Shafiqur accused the Awami League of initiating violence on October 28, 2006, and alleged their involvement in the killing of 57 army officers during the BDR mutinies. He contended that the Awami League had damaged two crucial pillars of the country: the patriotic army and the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar accused the Awami League government of destroying jute mills and agricultural lands. He demanded the reopening of closed jute mills and the payment of overdue salaries and allowances to laborers. The conference was presided over by Khanjahan Ali Thana Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sayed Hasan Mahmud. Other notable speakers included the party's central leader Mobarak Hossain, Jamaat-e-Islami central organizing secretary and director of Khulna region Muhaddis Abdul Khaleque, and central working committee member Moulana Abul Kalam Azad. The conference was conducted by Khanjahan Ali Tha na Jamaat-e-Islami secretary Gazi Morshed Mamun. Earlier, Dr. Shafiqur attended a gathering of the Khulna City Unit of women's Jamaat at Al Faruk Society as the chief guest.
