Sylhet: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today asserted that entrusting his party with the governance of the country will result in transformative changes within five years, addressing the aspirations of the youth and the demands of the mass uprising. "In 56,000 square miles of Bangladesh, we will establish justice and ensure equitable development of every inch of land," he declared during an election rally at the Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Rahman emphasized that the country's landscape would change significantly under Jamaat's leadership. He promised to establish justice and promote balanced development throughout Bangladesh, fulfilling the dreams of the youth and the nation's women. He also vowed that those who have embezzled public funds would be brought to justice, although he mentioned that voluntary restitution could be considered.
Dr. Rahman highlighted Sylhet's spiritual importance, describing it as the 'spiritual capital of the country' and recalling the legacy of Hazrat Shah Jalal (R.) in fighting tyranny. He lamented the past 54 years of oppressive politics and reiterated Jamaat-e-Islami's stance against seeking revenge, emphasizing their commitment to forgiveness.
Addressing corruption, Dr. Rahman stated that the country's wealth had been looted over the past decades, promising to reclaim stolen public funds and end corruption to pave the way for development. He also pointed out the exploitation of Sylhet's mineral resources and pledged to ensure equitable distribution of benefits, improve local infrastructure, and develop a river-friendly nation.
Dr. Rahman outlined ambitious plans for infrastructure enhancements, including completing the Dhaka-Sylhet six-lane highway, transforming Sylhet's airport into an international hub, developing Sylhet Medical University, and introducing a bullet train system between Dhaka and Sylhet.
He assured farmers and workers of their rights, promising tools and market access for farmers, resources for fishermen, and state responsibility for the children of tea plantation workers. The rally, noted for significant female participation, also included victims and survivors of the July Uprising.
Following the rally, Dr. Rahman distributed party symbols to candidates running for Sylhet's parliamentary seats and urged support for Jamaat and its allies.
