Rangamati: A total of 20 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed across seven upazilas, including two in the Chattogram district and five in the Rangamati district, to ensure security during the upcoming elections. The BGB members have commenced their duties from seven base camps, providing security at 267 polling stations in the concerned areas. This deployment covers the upazilas of Kaptai, Kaukhali, Rajasthali, Jurachhari, and Bilaichhari in Rangamati district, as well as Raozan and Rangunia in Chattogram district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kaptai Zone Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kawsar Mehdi confirmed the deployment, stating that platoons from Kaptai Battalion (41 BGB) are actively engaged in election-related tasks. The BGB members are conducting regular patrols and establishing check posts at key locations to inspect vehicles and individuals suspected of potential sabotage. Modern technology, such as drones and body-worn cameras, is being utilized to enhance surveillance during patrols.
Each polling station is under continuous monitoring through day and night patrols, Lieutenant Colonel Mehdi noted, emphasizing that consistent communication is being maintained with local administration and officials to ensure that the law and order situation remains stable. Special security measures have been implemented in the densely populated areas of Raozan and Rangunia upazilas in Chattogram district, where there are a significant number of polling stations. This is being done in collaboration with the army, other law enforcement agencies, and the civil administration.
He further emphasized that polling stations across all five upazilas within the Rangamati parliamentary constituencies are under constant surveillance. Regular patrols are being carried out, and communication with local residents is maintained around the clock to ensure public safety throughout the election period.
