Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. In a condolence message, he highlighted her significant contributions to Bangladesh’s democratic movement and struggle.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Shafiqur Rahman emphasized Khaleda Zia’s role in the restoration of multi-party democracy, the people’s right to vote, and the movement against dictatorship, noting that these efforts will be remembered in history. He acknowledged her unique identity in the country’s political arena due to her strong leadership and firm political stance.
The Jamaat Ameer remarked that the nation will remember Begum Khaleda Zia’s contribution to the anti-hegemonic movement and struggle with respect. He expressed his deep shock and condolences at her death, praying for her forgiveness and peace in the hereafter.
Dr Shafiqur also offered prayers for strength to be granted to her bereaved family, relatives, and colleagues during this difficult time.
