Dhaka: A six-member delegation of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami today met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin and placed nine-point demands, including allowing MPO-enlisted teachers to contest local government elections. The delegation, led by the party’s Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, held the meeting with the CEC at the Election Commission (EC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the party submitted its nine demands in writing to the EC. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mia Golam Parwar stated, “We assume that the schedule for the upcoming local government elections is going to be announced. Against this backdrop, we placed nine demands, along with some important suggestions, recommendations and opinions, before the Chief Election Commissioner today.”
The Jamaat Secretary General further mentioned, “We handed over nine demands to the CEC in writing. We had also raised some demands with the EC earlier, and we discussed with them what follow-up had been made on those demands.” Two other election commissioners and the EC secretary were also present at the meeting.
