Meherpur: Maulana Md. Tajuddin Khan, the Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Meherpur-1 constituency in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, has pledged to create a Meherpur free from drugs and online gambling. He highlighted the detrimental effects these issues have had on families, stating his commitment to eradicating them from the region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Maulana Tajuddin shared his pledges during an exclusive interview, outlining his vision for the constituency. Tajuddin, who joined Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in 1994 and currently serves as the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami in Meherpur district, emphasized the district’s agricultural dependency. He assured that all farmland would be cultivated, with resources like fertilizers, seeds, and irrigation provided based on cultivation needs rather than political affiliations. Additionally, he proposed the establishment of education or learning-based industries to create employment opportunities for students, alongside improvements in transportation infrastructure and education quality.
In addressing the election code of conduct, Tajuddin affirmed that his party is fully compliant and that instructions have been given to all leaders, activists, and supporters to adhere strictly to these regulations. He noted that their respect for the law extends beyond the election period.
Regarding the July Charter referendum, Tajuddin expressed support for a ‘Yes’ vote, reflecting on the sacrifices made during the July Revolution and the positive changes the Charter could bring to the nation. He stated that the spirit of independence should be evident in real development and governance.
For the upcoming national parliamentary election, Tajuddin expressed the desire for a fair and impartial election process. He emphasized the importance of democratic support for the elected candidate and highlighted the historical significance of Mujibnagar, urging that politics be rooted in democracy, justice, and dignity.
The Meherpur-1 constituency, comprising Sadar and Mujibnagar, has four candidates contesting the election: Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s Masud Arun, Jatiya Party’s Abdul Hamid, and Communist Party of Bangladesh’s Advocate Mizanur Rahman. The constituency has a total of 316,972 voters, with a slightly higher number of female voters than male voters.
