Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today declared his commitment to act as a guardian of people’s lives, wealth, and dignity, emphasizing a service-oriented approach rather than a ruling one. “We will, InshaAllah, be the guardians of the people’s lives, wealth, and dignity. We will not be the owners of this country. We will be the servants of the people if they elect us to form the government,” Dr. Shafiqur stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shafiqur was addressing an election rally for National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam, the Jamaat-led alliance candidate for Dhaka-11 constituency, held at the DIT Project playground in Badda. He emphasized that elected representatives would be required to present annual statements of their assets to ensure transparency in their income.
Dr. Shafiqur also highlighted the importance of women’s rights, making women’s dignity a top priority. He noted the lack of security for women at home, on the streets, and in workplaces, committing to ensuring respect and security for mothers and sisters in the country.
The commitment to safeguarding the rights of all 180 million citizens across Bangladesh’s 56,000 square miles was reiterated, with a promise of fairness for everyone. Addressing concerns about national wealth, Dr. Shafiqur criticized the siphoning of national wealth abroad and stressed the importance of recovering looted wealth to accelerate Bangladesh’s progress.
At the rally, Dr. Shafiqur handed over the Shaplakali (Water Lily Bud) symbol to Nahid Islam, urging supporters to protect the ballots on February 12. “From now on, you will guard the votes until they are cast. Do not let any miscreant dare to tamper with your votes,” he advised.
