Dhaka: Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in maintaining cleanliness, asserting that individual efforts to keep one's surroundings tidy would lead to a cleaner nation both physically and morally. He shared these thoughts while engaging in a street cleaning initiative with party leaders and activists in the Monipur area of Mirpur today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Rahman participated actively in the cleaning programme, taking time to personally sweep the streets and collect waste, dedicating approximately 15 to 20 minutes to the activities. He underscored the significance of transforming Mirpur into a model area through community efforts rather than waiting for government funding, though he expressed hope that the area would receive its rightful entitlements.
Dr. Rahman also highlighted the dual oaths taken by Members of Parliament and members of the State Reform Council, expressing a desire to contribute positively to the country. He stated, "Through reforms, we want to remove the impurities of society. Alongside cleaning the streets, we also want to cleanse people's minds. Today's campaign is part of that humanitarian correction."
The Jamaat Chief emphasized the broader impact of a clean environment on societal well-being, noting that a clean and beautiful environment positively influences people's behavior and mentality. He called for personal accountability, encouraging individuals to maintain clean surroundings as a step toward a cleaner motherland.
Furthermore, Dr. Rahman urged party units to dedicate at least half an hour daily to cleanliness activities after Fajr prayers, suggesting that an hour would be even more beneficial. He envisioned the expansion of these efforts into broader social service initiatives involving activists and their families.
The event was also attended by prominent Jamaat members, including Central executive council member and Ameer of Dhaka North city unit Md. Selim Uddin, Nayeb-e-Ameer Abdur Rahman Musa, Assistant Secretary Dr. Fakhruddin Manik, and Barrister Saif Uddin Khaled, who joined in the programme to support the cause.
