Islamic University Marks 47th Anniversary with Day-Long Celebrations

Kushtia: Islamic University (IU) celebrated its 47th University Day on Saturday with an array of programs on campus. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Nakib Muhammad Nasrullah inaugurated the celebrations by hoisting the national flag, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M Yeaqub Ali raised the university’s flag. The festivities included a cake-cutting ceremony, and balloons and pigeons were released to mark the occasion.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the celebrations continued with a vibrant rally led by the Vice-Chancellor, which traversed various roads within the campus. Departments and residential halls participated, showcasing their respective banners. The rally concluded at the university’s foundation stone, where floral wreaths were placed in tribute.



A special prayer was held to honor the university’s founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, seeking eternal peace for his soul. Following the rally, a discussion meeting took place at the Birshreshtha Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, chaired by Prof Dr. Alinoor Rahman, the convener of the Day Celebration Committee.



Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Naqib Mohammad Nasrullah addressed the gathering as the chief guest. The event also featured speeches from Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. M Yeaqub Ali, Treasurer Prof Dr. Jahangir Alam, and leaders from various teachers’ and employees’ forums. SM Sweet, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at IU, along with leaders from different student organizations, also shared their remarks.



In his speech, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Naqib Mohammad Nasrullah highlighted the significance of the day, recalling how Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman laid the foundation stone of Islamic University in 1979 at Shantidanga-Dulalpur. He emphasized the importance of the anniversary as part of the university’s tradition and expressed hope for the institution’s continued progress and reputation in Bangladesh.



The day concluded with a special munajat held at the Central Mosque after Zuhr prayers, seeking the university’s ongoing development and prosperity.
