Kushtia:The Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (BTGE) department of Islamic University (IU) has installed a state-of-the-art super resolution microscope under the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) sub-project.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the project was approved under window 3a (Advanced Research Area) to Associate Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam of the department. The super resolution microscope, manufactured by Leica, was installed on June 26 at the HEAT lab, provided by Invent Technologies Ltd., and is regarded as one of the top microscopic technologies available globally.

To facilitate the operation of this high-tech microscope, a three-day hands-on training workshop began today at the department. Participants of the workshop included students and teachers from various departments within the Science and Engineering faculties.

During the inauguration, former Rajshahi University teacher Prof. Dr. Firoj Ahmed addressed attendees via video conference, while Prof. Dr. Md. Tofazzal Islam, Graduate Studies faculty dean of Gazipur Agricultural University, delivered a speech on the integration of Biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Additionally, Prof. Dr. Md. Anwarul Haque, Prof. Dr. Rezuanul Islam, and Prof. Dr. Abu Hena Mostofa Jamal spoke at the event, which was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam, who also manages the HEAT project.

The speakers emphasized the rapid expansion of genetic engineering and biotechnology fields, generating robust data that, when integrated with scientific methods, is revolutionizing research. They highlighted the super-resolution microscope as an unparalleled tool, capable of transforming images into meaningful data to address complex biological problems. This instrument is considered the first of its kind and stands as one of the most advanced levels of microscopy developed, promising to enhance the scope of medical technology.
