Washington: US President Donald Trump on Sunday stated that Iran’s next supreme leader “is not going to last long” unless Tehran secures Washington’s approval to appoint a successor to the slain Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Speaking to ABC News, Trump emphasized the necessity of US approval by saying, “He’s going to have to get approval from us. If he doesn’t get approval from us he’s not going to last long.”
According to United News of Bangladesh, the comments from Trump come at a critical time as Iran’s clerical body, which is responsible for selecting Khamenei’s successor, has reportedly completed its voting process. The announcement of a new leader is expected soon, amid heightened geopolitical tensions and the US’s pivotal stance on the matter.
