Dhaka: Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr. Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi, today paid a courtesy call on President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the Bangabhaban here. During the meeting, the President expressed Bangladesh's commitment to its long-standing friendly and fraternal ties with Iran, emphasizing the deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the envoy congratulated Mirza Fakhrul on assuming the office of the President and handed over a congratulatory letter from the President of Iran. The President acknowledged the influence of Persian poets and thinkers such as Ferdowsi, Sheikh Saadi, Hafiz, and Jalaluddin Rumi on the cultural landscape of Bangladesh, highlighting the affection reflected in the works of Bangladesh's National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
Addressing the ongoing Middle East conflict, the President shared his concerns about the energy crisis it poses for import-dependent countries like Bangladesh. He reiterated the need for resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomatic efforts, while expressing sorrow over the loss of lives in Iran and condemning attacks on Iranian territory.
The discussion also included the importance of unity among the Muslim Ummah for global peace and stability. The Iranian ambassador praised Bangladesh's role in de-escalating Middle East tensions and expressed hope for enhanced bilateral cooperation across various fields. The President assured full cooperation to the ambassador and expressed optimism about further developing Bangladesh-Iran relations.
The meeting was attended by secretaries of the President's Office, senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Iranian Embassy.
