Jahangirnagar university: Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan announced that the investigation into the attacks on protesting students during the July movement has been delayed due to ongoing campus unrest. Some teachers were allegedly involved in these attacks, which has further complicated the investigation process.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor spoke to journalists at his office, explaining that the incidents in question occurred on July 14, 15, and 17 in 2024 at his residence during what is referred to as the July Uprising. He pointed out that several teachers were among the accused in these incidents.

Prof Kamrul mentioned that the structured committee set up to investigate the incidents had nearly completed its task, with only a few meetings left before the final report could be submitted to the university syndicate. The committee intended to finalize the report by the scheduled syndicate meeting on May 21. However, due to the continued unrest and instability on campus, access to the administrative building was restricted, leading to delays in the investigation process.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed regret over the delay and apologized to teachers, students, and other stakeholders, reaffirming the university administration’s commitment to completing the investigation promptly. He also mentioned that a syndicate meeting would be arranged soon for budgetary discussions, where the completed report would also be addressed.

Prof Kamrul urged everyone involved to assist in maintaining a stable academic environment and expressed hope that the investigation would be concluded fairly and timely during the upcoming syndicate meeting.
