DHAKA, May 15, 2017 (BSS)- Emphasizing the importance of more care for mothers for a better nation, Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu said yesterday that healthy, educated and lively mothers were the key to a nation's growth.
"The state and society must think about it more seriously," he said while speaking as chief guest at a function organised by Universal Medical College at the city's RAOWA Club. The function was organised to honor mothers who had made significant contributions to society.
Recalling the great role of mothers during the Liberation War, he mentioned that they had suffered a lot during the War.
Citing the instance of Shaheed Azad, he said, when his mother met her son for the last time in prison, she asked him not to disclose the names of his comrades. Azad followed her advice.
He also said honor alone was not enough, they needed to have equal share of property. He also emphasized the need for special care during maternity, both before and after childbirth.
In recognition of their children's role Sakera Begum, Shyamoli Nasreen Chowdhury and others were given special honors.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Sohrab Hasan, Joint Editor of Bengali daily Prothom Alo.
