Kushtia: A court here today sent former information minister Hasanul Haque Inu to jail in connection with two attempted murder cases. Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahmuda Sultana passed the order as police produced him before the court this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, one of the cases was filed over an attack on Bangla daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman in 2018. The incident occurred on July 22, 2018, on the premises of the Kushtia Senior Judicial Magistrate Court after Rahman secured bail in a defamation case. The case was filed by former district Chhatra League president and current district Swechchhasebak League president Yasir Arafat Tushar. On October 1, 2024, Mahmudur Rahman filed a case with Kushtia Model Thana, accusing 47 people, including Hasanul Haque Inu.
The second case involved an attempted murder charge related to an incident during the July-August uprising in 2024. Shafiqul Islam, who was injured during the anti-discrimination student movement, filed the case against Inu and several others. Inu, originally from Bheramara upazila in Kushtia district, now faces serious legal challenges as he remains in custody.
