Dhaka: The Interpol has issued a red notice against former inspector general of Bangladesh Police, Benazir Ahmed. This development was confirmed by the assistant inspector general (Media and Public Relations) of Police, Md Inamul Hauqe Sagar, to BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the National Central Bureau (NCB), a unit of the police headquarters, had previously submitted a request to the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to issue the red notice against Benazir. Sagar stated, “We recently knew that the Interpol issued a red notice against former inspector general of Bangladesh Police Benazir Ahmed.”
Benazir Ahmed served as the IGP from April 2020 to September 2022, following his tenure as the director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from 2015 to 2020. During his time in these positions, allegations surfaced regarding his involvement in extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
