Sirajganj: The International Day to End Obstetric Fistula 2026 was marked in Ullapara upazila, Sirajganj, with a series of activities including a rally, a discussion meeting, and a leaflet distribution campaign. These events were organized collaboratively by the Department of Health and the Department of Family Planning, supported technically by UNFPA Bangladesh and the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programme commenced with an inauguration by Civil Surgeon Dr. Nurul Amin at the Ullapara Upazila Health Complex. Health officials, during the discussion, underscored the necessity of raising awareness and ensuring proper diagnosis and treatment to eradicate obstetric fistula.
The campaign operated under the global theme ‘Act Now to End Fistula by 2030’. Officials reported that a special 20-day campaign was conducted throughout Sirajganj district from May 2 to May 20, successfully reaching over 11 lakh individuals with awareness messages.
During this campaign, 21 individuals were identified as suspected fistula patients. Among these, two were diagnosed at the Fistula Corner of Sadar Hospital, and one case was confirmed positive.
