Jamalpur: The 33rd International Day for the Disabled and the 26th National Day for the Disabled was observed in the district in a befitting manner today. District Administration and Social Service Department jointly organized the programmes including a rally, a discussion meeting, and the distribution of articles among disabled people. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a discussion meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner with Deputy Director of the Social Service Department, Rokonul Islam, presiding over the event. Deputy Commissioner Hasina Begum spoke at the meeting as the chief guest and emphasized that under the social safety net, the government is implementing development programmes to integrate disabled persons into the mainstream. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Gen) Iftekhar Eunus, Medical Officer Dr. Sabbir Ahmed, Assistant Director of the Social Service Department Ilias Mollik, and District Disabled Affairs Officer Ishraki Fatema also addressed the attendees at the meeting. Earlier in the day, a rally commenced from the Dewanpara area of the town and concluded at the Deputy Commissioner's office compound, after parading through the main roads.
