Dhaka: The 34th International and 27th National Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025 will be celebrated nationwide on December 3, under the initiative of the National Disability Development Foundation of the Ministry of Social Welfare. This year's theme, announced by the United Nations, is 'Fostering disability inclusive for advancing social progress,' focusing on promoting an understanding of disability issues, increasing awareness, and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on the eve of the day, Chief Adviser of the Interim government Professor Muhammad Yunus issued a message congratulating all special intelligent disabled children and persons, their families, service-oriented researchers, therapists, auxiliary technology innovators, and concerned public and private organizations. He emphasized the importance of the theme announced by the United Nations and highlighted the efforts of the Social Welfare Ministry and its subordinate organizations in implementing social service and rehabilitation programs.
The Chief Adviser noted that the Social Welfare Ministry is working under community-based rehabilitation programs as per World Health Organization guidelines. He stressed that ensuring proper education, health, security, and employment opportunities for talented disabled persons is crucial for their role in shaping a developed Bangladesh. Initiatives such as disability services, help centers, and the administration of intellectually disabled schools under the National Disabled Development Foundation are part of this effort.
Professor Yunus also mentioned the construction of an international standard multipurpose sports complex in Savar and the inauguration of the Martyred Farhan Faiyaz playground for disabled sportsmen at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban premises as part of the initiatives to support disabled persons. He expressed his belief that specialized disabled persons in the country could transform Bangladesh into a 'Sonar Bangla' through their efforts, knowledge, and integrity.
