Dhaka: Labour and employment adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has affirmed that the legitimacy of the current interim government is derived from a mass uprising. He made this statement while addressing journalists following a coordination meeting on the current labour situation at his ministry office. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Asif Mahmud stated that Article 106 of the Constitution has already conferred legitimacy upon the government. He indicated that further legal validation is anticipated through an ordinance currently under discussion. Responding to inquiries from journalists, Mahmud emphasized that the chief adviser is actively engaged in regular meetings with reform commissions, ensuring the continuation of reform programs based on their reports. Asif Mahmud, who also serves as the youth and sports adviser, noted that the reform commissions were established to dismantle the fascist system. He mentioned that an outline has been developed to complete the reform process through discour se with stakeholders and political parties. Mahmud expressed optimism about implementing a vision for building a new Bangladesh through this collaborative process. Addressing the challenges in the labour market, Mahmud highlighted a shift in approach from previous practices, stating that the government is aiding owners in wage payments rather than resorting to harmful measures against workers. However, he acknowledged the complexity of finding an immediate solution to the labour crisis. In relation to Bangladesh's standing at recent International Labour Organization (ILO) meetings, Mahmud remarked that the country's position was positive and commendable. He added that several countries have supported Bangladesh in withdrawing the case previously filed by the ILO.
