Dhaka: The Interim government has initiated a comprehensive month-long programme to commemorate the first anniversary of the July mass uprising. The announcement of this special programme was made through a statement from the Chief Advisor’s Press Wing earlier today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki revealed at a press conference on June 19 that the programme will commence on July 1, with the main events beginning on July 14 and running through August 5. The primary goal of the programme is to rekindle the spirit that unified the nation of Bangladesh during the events of July.

The detailed schedule of the programme includes various events and activities. On July 1, prayers will be held in places of worship across the country in memory of the martyrs. A mass signature campaign demanding justice for the victims of the July massacre will be launched and will continue until August 1. National University scholarships in memory of the martyrs will also be announced.

On July 5, a national postering campaign will begin to raise awareness about the oppressive actions of the previous Awami government. A new website, Julyforever.org, will be launched on July 7.

July 14, designated as July Women’s Day, will feature video sharing, testimony from martyrs’ families, and the establishment of memorials in every district. Shilpakala Academy will screen videos in all 64 districts and universities nationwide. The day will also include documentary screenings, projection mapping, and a drone show at TSC.

Throughout the month, various themed days will involve video sharing, remembrance events, documentary screenings, and cultural activities at universities and public spaces. Highlights include symbolic internet blackouts, rallies, graffiti exhibitions, and a marathon. Additionally, events will commemorate child martyrs, and a graphic novel based on the July movement for children will be published.

The programme aims to honor the sacrifices made during the uprising and educate the public, especially the younger generation, about this pivotal moment in Bangladesh’s history.
