Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today announced that the interim government is actively working to reshape the country's political framework to achieve a specific goal. 'Following the July Uprising, we have been unable to fully grasp the aspirations and desires of the people. The interim government was formed with the support of all of us, and it has been working to shape the political structure to a defined point. However, it is still too early to say how far this aligns with the hopes and aspirations of the people,' Fakhrul stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul shared these insights while addressing a gathering as the chief guest at an event commemorating the 49th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, a leader known for his work with the oppressed. The discussion was organized by the BNP at the National Press Club, with BNP Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu presiding.
Fakhrul emphasized the urgent necessity of conducting a national election, stating, 'We have repeatedly said that elections are the only path through which we can begin the transition to democracy and attempt to reflect the people's aspirations.' He expressed concerns about certain groups attempting to disrupt the upcoming national election, slated for the first half of February 2026. 'Some groups and certain quarters are intentionally trying to create uncertainty in Bangladesh. They want to obstruct and delay the election by putting forward various demands,' he alleged.
The senior BNP leader urged all political parties to expedite the electoral process and enable citizens to choose their representatives. He stressed the importance of collective support for the election to ensure a smooth transition.
Reflecting on Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani's legacy, Fakhrul described him as a politician dedicated to the welfare of the hardworking people, including farmers and laborers. 'He was a politician who never sought personal comfort or material wealth. He spent his entire life struggling for the farmers, labourers, blacksmiths, potters, and the hardworking people of this country,' Fakhrul said, highlighting Bhashani's simple lifestyle and his commitment to social justice.
Concluding his remarks, Fakhrul urged recognition of the contributions of Maulana Bhashani, advocating for the study of his works and the emulation of his ideals to benefit the nation.
