Khulna: Conservator of Forest in Khulna, Imran Ahmed, announced today that the injured tigress rescued from the Sundarbans is recovering gradually. He urged the public to maintain a safe distance to ensure the tigress’s swift recovery.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tigress is receiving treatment at the Wildlife Breeding and Rehabilitation Center in Khulna after being rescued from the Chandpai Range of the Sundarbans East Forest Division on January 4, 2026. Initially found in a weakened state, the tigress is now showing signs of improvement, having started to eat and drink during her treatment.
Imran Ahmed noted that the tigress’s wild strength is beginning to return under the close supervision of Forest Department’s Veterinary Officer, Hatem Sajjad Zulkarnain. However, he emphasized that the animal is not yet completely out of danger. A team of experts, led by Professor Dr. Hadi Noor Ali Khan from the Veterinary Faculty of Bangladesh Agricultural University, arrived in Khulna from Dhaka to conduct an initial assessment of the tigress.
The team observed the tigress this morning and provided advice regarding her condition. The tigress’s front left leg was injured due to entrapment, but the experts believe there are no broken bones, which is promising for her recovery. The medical team is hopeful that the tigress will recuperate and return to the forest soon.
The press release highlighted that as the tigress’s wounds heal, proximity to humans could increase the risk of infection. The tigress, being a wild animal with no prior contact with humans, requires careful handling to facilitate her recovery.
