RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a recent discussion emphasized the need to infuse dynamism into social services as a strategy for enhancing the welfare of people with special needs and other underprivileged groups. They advocated for transparency and accountability in welfare-oriented activities to ensure that the target beneficiaries receive the full advantages of these programs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion was organized by the Department of Social Services (DSS) at their conference hall in honor of National Social Service Day-2025. The event’s theme, “Nei Pashe Keo Jar, Somajseba Achhe Tar,” underscores the importance of social service in supporting individuals who have no one else to rely on.
The discussion featured several notable speakers, including Divisional Commissioner Firoj Sarker, who served as the chief guest. Special guests included DSS Divisional Director Anindita Roy, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nurul Hai Muhammad Anas, and DSS Deputy Director Kanij Mostofa. These officials highlighted the ongoing efforts of the DSS in aiding distressed individuals and stressed the importance of sincerity and honesty among staff in implementing welfare programs effectively.
The event began with a walkathon, where a diverse group of DSS officials, staff, and community members marched from Shialbari crossing to the DSS office premises. Nearly 100 government and non-government officials, employees, and volunteers participated, demonstrating widespread support for the cause.
Commissioner Firoj Sarker reiterated the DSS’s commitment to standing by the helpless and underprivileged and called on all involved to continue their efforts with dedication. The discussion concluded with a shared commitment to enhancing the impact of social services through improved practices and policies.
