Dhaka: Industrial gas supply rose 21 percent in the January-April period as the sector received 1088 mmcfd gas in April this year, which was only 726 mmcfd in 2024, according to Petrobangla.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state-run agency reported that between January and April this year, the average daily gas supply to the industrial sector stood at 997 million cubic feet (mmcfd), marking a 21 percent increase from 823 mmcfd in the same period of 2024. This surge is attributed to various government initiatives aimed at boosting local production.

Petrobangla announced that industries will receive an additional 150 mmcfd starting from May 28 to meet growing demand and maintain smooth production. Nobel Dey, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, highlighted this development, emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting industrial growth.

Quoting Petrobangla statistics, Dey noted that in April, industries received 1088 mmcfd gas, a significant increase from the 726 mmcfd supplied in April 2024. Additionally, the government has imported six additional LNG cargos compared to last year, ensuring a steady supply to meet industrial needs.

The statistics also revealed that the import price of per cubic metre gas is Tk 65, with the government providing a subsidy of Tk 35 per cubic metre, allowing industries to access gas at Tk 30 to Tk 31.50. This subsidy aims to alleviate financial pressures on industries and promote economic stability.

Petrobangla’s figures further detailed the monthly supply pattern, with 916 mmcfd in January, 930 mmcfd in February, 1053 mmcfd in March, and 1088 mmcfd in April 2025. In contrast, under the previous government, the supply was lower each month, highlighting the current administration’s efforts to enhance industrial support.
