Dhaka: The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 has scheduled December 17 for the hearing on charge framing in the case against Salman F Rahman and Anisul Huq. They are accused of inciting mass killings and committing other crimes against humanity through the imposition of a curfew during the July Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two-member tribunal, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder, issued this order earlier today. The prosecution had submitted the formal charges on December 4, which were subsequently accepted by the tribunal.
Case documents reveal that Salman and Anisul were engaged in a telephonic conversation during the uprising, during which they allegedly expressed support for the elimination of protesters. This conversation was followed by reports of protesters facing indiscriminate firing nationwide, leading the prosecution to charge the two men with incitement to violence.
On August 13, 2024, Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman were apprehended in Dhaka’s Sadarghat while attempting to escape the capital via river routes. They have been in custody since their arrest.
