DHAKA: Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma today emphasized Delhi's commitment to nurturing a stable, positive, and constructive relationship with Bangladesh, underlining the pivotal role of the people in both countries as primary stakeholders. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Verma articulated India's long-term perspective on its relations with Bangladesh, highlighting that the peace, security, progress, and prosperity of the two nations are intertwined. He expressed these views during his address on India-Bangladesh relations at the ongoing Bay of Bengal Conversation, organized by the Centre for Governance Studies in Dhaka, as mentioned in a press release from the Indian high commission. In his speech, Verma underscored the continuous advancement in trade, transport, and energy connectivity, as well as people-to-people engagements, as indicators of the multifaceted ties between the neighboring countries. He noted that the interdependence and mutual benefits of India and Bangladesh will persist, irrespective of political changes. The envoy pointed to recent progress in bilateral relations, citing the commencement of a 40 MW power transmission from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid and enhancements to infrastructure at the Petrapole-Benapole Integrated Check Post, both occurring this month. Verma also portrayed India-Bangladesh cooperation as a cornerstone for regional integration, envisaged under frameworks like BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation). The High Commissioner reaffirmed India's dedication to collaborating with the government and people of Bangladesh to achieve shared goals for peace, security, and development, ensuring that these efforts continue to benefit the common people on both sides.
