India lifts ban on onion export

DHAKA, India has lifted the ban on onion exports after about half a year. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) of India issued a notification to this end today. DGFT has set the Minimum Export Price (MEP) for onion at $550 per tonne. In December last year, the Indian government restricted the export of onions till March 31, 2024. Asked whether the import of onions at this rate will be reasonable or not for the country, Bangladesh Onion Importers Association (BOIA) President Haji Majed said it will be reasonable for importers-consumers and they will go for import the essential kitchen item at this rate soon.
