Rangpur: Officials at a discussion and award distribution ceremony today emphasized the need to enhance the importance of libraries for building a prosperous and more enlightened society. The event was organized at the seminar room of the Divisional Government Public Library in observance of National Library Day 2025 with the theme ‘May the library be enriched, this is our pledge’. The district administration and Divisional Government Public Library jointly organized the event.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal inaugurated the observance by releasing balloons and attended the event as the chief guest. The speakers at the event highlighted the crucial role libraries have played in enhancing book reading habits of people for centuries. They emphasized the importance of libraries in enriching knowledge by removing the lack of information to build a more civilized society. Libraries were described as enriched sources of knowledge about ancient and present societies, life, human philosophy, histories, civilizations, politics, country, literature, and the globe, urging everyone to become library-oriented.

The chief guest underscored the library’s role as a central hub for the intellectual and professional development of a nation. He described libraries as custodians and nurturers of a nation’s talent, thinking, history, tradition, and culture. The library’s contribution in spreading the light of knowledge among the general public was highlighted, with the library being referred to as the ‘People’s University.’

It was noted that the Rangpur Divisional Public Library is now much richer than before. In the current technology-dependent era, the digital library has further expanded the world of knowledge, with this public library being brought under the e-book open and WiFi zone. The deputy commissioner urged students to read books with joy to enrich their knowledge beyond the syllabus.
