Dhaka: The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has launched special drives in Dhaka, Brahmanbaria, Narayanganj and Narsingdi districts, disconnecting illegal gas and fuel connections and realising fines.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a PID release detailed that in Brahmanbaria’s Bancharampur upazila, 70 illegal residential gas connections were disconnected. Additionally, two commercial establishments, “Mr. Kitchen” and “Pizza Boy,” were stripped of their unlawful gas connections. Eight residential consumers faced fines totaling Tk 40,000, while the two businesses were fined Tk 100,000. During the operation, approximately 600 feet of MS pipes and various burners and ovens were seized.

In Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila, four lime factories and three commercial establishments lost a total of seven illegal gas connections. Authorities confiscated nearly 870 feet of pipelines of different sizes and other equipment, imposing fines totaling Tk 50,000 on the offenders.

Similarly, in different areas under the Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka, officials disconnected illegal gas connections at one washing factory, one wire factory, and a residential building. The initiative is anticipated to save approximately 23,245 cubic metres of gas each month, equivalent to Tk 680,148. The operation resulted in the seizure of 290 feet of pipeline, two ball valves, and one compressor set.

In Narsingdi’s Monohardi upazila, a drive against unauthorised and adulterated fuel sales led to the seizure of 570 litres of diesel and 275 litres of petrol from an illegal outlet.

The release emphasized that these actions reflect the government’s firm stance against the unlawful use and marketing of fuel. By disconnecting illegal connections and imposing fines, the government aims to restore discipline in the energy sector.
