Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has hailed the successful reintegration of demoralized police personnel back to their duties as the most significant achievement in the past year following the dislodging of the Awami League (AL) government on August 5. “To bring police personnel back to their works is the great success of Bangladesh Police in the past one year,” he stated during a phone interview with BSS on August 4, reflecting on the police force’s achievements over the last year.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the IGP highlighted the stark contrast between the state of police personnel on August 6 and their current positioning. “They are back to their stations and have resumed their duties, and it’s a huge success,” he affirmed. While acknowledging this progress, Alam expressed that he is not entirely satisfied with the overall law and order situation in the country, indicating room for improvement.

The IGP emphasized that preparations are underway to ensure the upcoming national election is conducted freely, fairly, and peacefully. “Our main target is the next election. We’re preparing for that,” he noted, pointing to the police force’s commitment to maintaining order.

Sources from the Police Headquarters revealed that the police have played a vital role in restoring normalcy to public life after the Awami League government’s ousting due to the Mass Uprising. Following the upheaval, the police launched nationwide special operations targeting criminals and recovering looted firearms from law enforcement. These efforts are ongoing and will continue until the next election to ensure public safety.
